iPhone 5 Already in Production?

Don your tin foil hat and stick your finger in the TV aerial socket - it's time to tune-in to the latest iPhone 5 rumour. According to DigiTimes, the iPhone 5 has gone into full production in China.

Serial rumour producer DigiTimes writes that Pegatron has begun making the new iPhone in its factories in Shanghai. The massive effort is expected to see Pegatron's revenue to increase by 20 per cent in the second half of the year, over the first. The site also claims that Pegatron is to become a key cog in the iPad manufacturing machine - with a few million units to ship from its factories in Q3 2012.

DigiTimes's iPhone rumours tend to rely on claimed sources within the Apple supply claim, and are often a bit dubious. However, this one seems common sense. If Apple is to launch the new iPhone in a similar manner to the new iPad, where stock was relatively plentiful at release, it's going to have to crank out millions of the things by launch day.

Various other rumours say that the iPhone 5 will launch in September or October, giving Apple just a couple of months to produce enough units of the new phone. It's expected to feature a 4in screen, NFC technology and a new design, using more metal and less glass.
